Special Education

Students take core subjects in a general education classroom with two teachers—one general education and one special education. This model provides extra support while keeping students included with their peers.

Small-group classes such as Academy, AFS, or Pre-Algebra give students targeted support in specific areas while encouraging progress in the general education setting.

Courses in Math, English/Reading, Science, and Social Science are offered in smaller, supportive classrooms. Instruction is tailored to build strong academic foundations.

Students with the most intensive needs are served by Extensive Needs Programming. The curriculum emphasizes functional academics, community­-based instruction, vocational education, and social, domestic, and independent living. 

High School

Special Day Programs focus on practical academics, social development, and daily living skills.

Adult Transition 

Students gain independence and prepare for life after high school through real-world learning.

STEPS is a structured program designed for students with emotional or behavioral challenges. STEPS combines academics with counseling, social-emotional learning, and coping strategies.

Students receive individual or group counseling as outlined in their IEP. These services strengthen emotional well-being and support school success.

Depending on a student’s needs, services may include Occupational Therapy (OT), Vision or Hearing Support, Assistive Technology (AT), or behavior support from a BCBA. All services are based on IEP decisions.

Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) support students with communication skills.

The school psychologist provides evaluation and assessment reports and develops positive behavior plans.

The Transition Partnership Project was designed to build partnerships between local education agencies (LEAs) and the Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) for the purposes of successfully transitioning student­-DOR consumers into meaningful employment and/or secondary education.
